Each, an acclaimed soloist in her own right, the sisters have performed with leading orchestras in Norway and around Europe. In 2003, Ragnhild won First Prize and the Laureate Prize in the Kocian International Violin Competition. Eldbjørg won the competition two years later in 2005.
The Hemsing Sisters, Ragnhild (born 1988) and Eldbjorg ( born 1990) have been playing together since 1995 when, at the ages of seven and five, they played for the Norwegian Royal Family at the National Theatre in Oslo. They have become well known in Norway for their many television, radio and concert performances both with orchestra and in recital. Their duo repertoire features works for two violins and for violin and viola. With orchestras they perform the Double Concertos by Bach and Vivaldi, Mozart's Symphonia Concertante and Concertone, Lumbye's Concert Polka and Sarasate's Navarra.
They have played as a duo with the National Philharmonic of the Ukraine, Ashland Symphony, Trondheim Symphony, and with members of the Oslo Symphony. They have also performed at the Oslo International Chamber Music Festival, Bergen Chamber Music Festival, Stavanger International Music Festival, Hardingtonar Festival, Harstad International Festival, Northern Lights Festival, in the USA, Germany, Spain and in a concert series in Delhi in India as part of a Norwegian state visit.
The Hemsing Sisters represented Norway in the Bravo Bravissimo Competition held in Italy in 2001, sponsored by the European Broadcasting Union. Also in 2001, the Hemsing Sisters were invited to the radio show “From the Top,” broadcast by more than 250 radio stations in the USA.
The two sisters have active individual careers as solo violinists: they both have won First Prize and also the Laureate Prize in the Kocian International Violin Competion, Ragnhild in 2003 and Eldbjorg in 2005. They both study with Stephan Barratt-Due in Oslo.
