Nordic Cool 2013 in Full Swing at the Kennedy Center

2/26/2013 // From February 19 to March 17, 2013, the Kennedy Center presents Nordic Cool 2013, a month-long international festival of theater, dance, music, visual arts, literature, design, cuisine, and film to highlight the diverse cultures of the Nordic countries.

The Festival kicked off with a white-tie gala on Tuesday, February 19 and is now in full swing.

The Norwegian play "Bird in Magic Rain with Tears" played on Feb. 20 and 21 and received an excellent review in the Washington Post.

Terje Isungset's Icemusic was a sold-out success, as the artist played instruments hand-hewn from the ice of ancient glaciers.

A Taste of Norway gave 100 people the chance to sample gourmet Norwegian cuisine at the Residence of Amb. Wegger Chr. Strommen.

Many additional Norwegian events will be held in the upcoming weeks of Nordic Cool. Below, you can find links to all of them.

Check this space for further updates. Hope you're enjoying Nordic Cool!

What is "Nordic"? To try to answer that many-faceted question, the Kennedy Center presents Nordic Cool 2013. This international festival brings more than 700 artists to celebrate the diverse cultures of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden as well as Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and the Åland Islands.

By exploring the region's cultural diversity, the Kennedy Center aspires to offer clarity on a part of the world whose dynamic culture and creative economy have seemed elusive to many, particularly in America, and foster an appreciation of the Nordic region's heritage and emerging global influence.
