The work of Norwegian writer Jon Fosse -- Europe’s most performed playwright, often mentioned as the contemporary equivalent to Henrik Ibsen -- will be performed at Cherry Lane Theatre in New York from October 10 to December 8.
Rattlestick Playwrights Theater presents A Summer Day
Set in an idyllic but isolated old house overlooking the water, and in two different times, "A Summer Day" captures the dilemma of love in the moment, as well as a distant memory. Fosse's poetic, haunting language reminds us of potential in every moment and the suspense of being alive.
Fosse's plays continue to be revered worldwide, and while he is the most performed playwright in all of Europe, the United States is just beginning to experience his outstanding artistic work. Fosse is widely considered one of the world's greatest contemporary playwrights, and has been described as a contemporary equivalent to Ibsen. His works have been translated into more than 40 languages, and his more than 30 plays have been performed in more than 750 productions around the world. Fosse's work has been described by the New York Times as "fierce poetic simplicity."
