On December 4, the Seamen's Church in San Francisco and Nordmanns-forbundet are hosting an event celebrating that it is 100 years scince the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen arrived at the South Pole.
Roald Amundsen and his men conquered and planted the Norwegian flag on the South Pole on December 14, 1911, thus putting Norway at the forefront of international Arctic history.
On December 4, 100 years later, there will be an opportunity to learn more about Roald Amundsen and the dramatic events that was crowned with the conquest of the South Pole. The Director of Music at the Seamen's Church in San Francisco, Håkon Sødal, has put together an exciting program. He will present a DVD, made by Norsk Filminstitutt, with Amundsen original film recordings from 1911. Sødal will also play a composition which has been found in Church’s archives, written in honor of Roald Amundsen shortly after his death in 1928.
A donation of $5.00 for church coffee will be appreciated
