Under Minerva Gallery presents Core, a diverse group exhibition exploring the innermost ideas of existence.The exhibit in Brooklyn, NY, runs from September 10 through October 8, 2010.
Corse is a new, dynamic show exploring visceral elements of human existence. showcasing new works by Julian Rozzell (curator), Anki King, Diana Schmertz, Ajamu Kojo Chioke Walker, John Bonafede and Louise Brooks.
The works exhibited are as diverse as the artists; drawing, painting, sculpture and performance will be part of the Core experience. The show is presented by The People’s Art, an organization committed to expanding public access to the arts in New York City. The opening reception on September 10th will feature a screening of PROM KING, by Ephraim Asili, and a musical performance by Brooklyn-based band, TROOSTITE.
John Bonafede is a painter and performance artist from Long Island, NY. Bonafede studied painting at Syracuse University, and received his BFA at SVA. He recently collaborated with Marina Abramovic at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), in New York.
Ajamu Kojo Chioke Walker is a painter and scenic designer from Little Rock, Arkansas. Walker studied the Mische Technique under Maestros Phil Jacobson & Michael Fuchs at the Academy of New Vision in Austria.
Louise Brooks is a painter from New York City who currently lives and works in Harlem, NY. Brooks studied painting at the Stacy Studio Workshop and the Art Students League. She currently manages community relations for the Rubin Museum of Art.
Diana Schmertz received her MS in Art Education from the College of New Rochelle, and her BFA in painting from SUNY Purchase. She founded Perfect 8 Magazine.
Anki King is a painter and sculptor from Norway, and lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. King studied at the Oslo Drawing and Painting School and The Arts Students League. Schmertz and King’s work was recently exhibited at The National Gallery in the Dominican Republic.
Julian Rozzell is an established actor and self-taught painter from Virginia, and lives and works in Astoria, Queens.
Ephraim Asili is a New York-based multimedia artist specializing in video and 16-millimeter filmmaking. Asili received his MFA from Bard College, and his BA from Temple University. He currently works in Harlem, NY.
