International Glass and Clay 2013 kicks off with an event the evening of Friday, March 1 from 5:30-8:00 p.m., hosted at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery in downtown Washington, D.C. One of the featured artists is Dr. Margareth Troli, who was born in Norway.

The event is free to attend. 
 
Emy Tseng from Twins Jazz will open the evening at 5:30 p.m. with a jazz performance. At 6:30 p.m. there will be opening remarks from the exhibition sponsors.

Troli is based at the National Glass Centre (UK) in Sunderland, where she explores the integration of digital technologies in her artwork. She completed a PhD in 2011 with the support from the Art and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). She developed technical approaches for the Studio Glass through the investigation of waterjet cutting. Troli’s research has also been presented at international conferences.

Troli has received numerous prizes, awards and scholarships for her artwork. Her artwork can be found in the collections of the Broadfield House Glass Museum (UK), which holds one of the largest collections of Glass Art in the UK, and the Ernsting Stiftung Glass Museum (DE).

Troli  recently won a commission to create lighting sculptures for a cultural center in Norway that is due to open in 2014.
