Paintings by Charles Meyers & Irene Christensen will be on display at Roger Smith Hotel in NYC from June 15 through July

The exhibition is curated by Molly Barnes. She is both a collector and an art dealer who has helped to shape the LA art scene from the 1960s to the present by discovering and introducing artists to the public.

Molly Barnes became interested in Abstract Expressionism while living in East Hampton when the painter, Joan Mitchell, introduced her to Willem de Kooning, Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg, and others. After working in several galleries, Molly opened her first Los Angeles gallery on La Cienega in 1967. A major presence in the art world on both coasts ever since, she has shown work by more than 500 artists at her galleries in Los Angeles and New York, as well as curating several dozen major shows.

Charles Meyer's art making is an involvement in his defining a personal viewpoint and imagery. He has exhibited since the 1950’s throughout the USA and Europe, where he lived for over 5 years. He received an M.F.A. in Fine Arts and History from Columbia University and did post, post graduate work at Cranbrook Academy of Art.

Charles Meyers has received many prizes, honorariums and awards, including the prestigious Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation grant and the New Millennium Artist in Residence for the Newark Museum.Charles Meyers oil paintings contain glazing and powdered pigment. The “vera oro” gold leaf is used to silhouette and enhance the images.
