Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense on Official Visits to US

The Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense Minister are in the United States on official business this week, with a full slate of conferences and meetings for both

Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende in DC and NYC

On Wed., Nov. 30, Washington, DC welcomed Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende, who is embarking on a whirlwind tour of DC and NYC that included, by one count, 18 meetings, breakfasts and dinners, many of them with people close to the incoming Trump administration. This includes meetings with US senators and representatives.

During his visit, topics of particular interest will include security, defense, NATO and core economic interests.

On the evening of his arrival, the minister attended an Atlantic Council board dinner with Fred Kempe, Stephen Hadley and Madeleine Albright, which included a presentation of Albright and Hadley’s report, “A New Approach for the Middle East.”

Minister of Defense Ine Eriksen Søreide in California and Arizona

She will participate in an event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation in Simi Valley on Fri. and Sat., Dec. 2 and 3, which will include a panel discussion titled “A View of U.S. National Defense from Friends and Allies.”

During her visit to America, Ms. Søreide will meet with, among others, Gen. Robert B. Neller, Commandant of the US Marine Corps, Hon. Leon E. Panetta, Former US Secretary of Defense,

From there, she will travel to Phoenix for further meetings, many involving the F-35 stealth fighter.

The Defense Minister will return to Norway on Tues., Dec. 6.
