Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja Visit the Midwest and NYC, Oct. 13-22, 2011

Last updated: 10/4/2011 // Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja will pay an official visit to the Midwest and New York October 13-22, 2011. In Minnesota and Iowa, the Royal Couple will meet with representatives from the state governments and visit Norwegian-American environs and institutions. In New York, the King and Queen will be among the Honorary guests at the American Scandinavian Foundation’s Centennial Ball. In addition, Their Majesties will visit Ground Zero and Norwegian-American environs, and they will attend several cultural events.

Main points in the program

Thursday, October 13

Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja visit Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. While there, the King and Queen will receive the Spirit of Luther Award. Later that day, the Royal Couple will visit Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum in Decorah.  

Friday, October 14

Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja visit St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  

Sunday, October 16

Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja visit Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The King and Queen will meet with Governor Mark Dayton in the afternoon. In the evening the Royal Couple will attend a dinner hosted by Ambassador of Norway to the United States Wegger Chr. Strommen.  

Monday, October 17

Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja visit Sons of Norway in Duluth, Minnesota. The Royal Couple will also visit Enger Tower, an observation tower atop Enger Hill.  

Tuesday, October 18

Thursday, October 20

Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja will attend a lunch under the direction of The Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce (NACC). Later, the Royal Couple will visit the Scandinavia House and the exhibition Luminous Modernism: Scandinavian Art Comes to America, 1912. Their Majesties the King and Queen of Sweden, the President of Iceland, the President of Finland, and Their Royal Highnesses the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Denmark will also be present at this event.  

Friday, October 21

Together with Their Majesties the King and Queen of Sweden, the President of Iceland, the President of Finland, and Their Royal Highnesses the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Denmark, Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja will attend a ceremony and a laying of wreaths at Ground Zero. The Royal Couple will then pay a visit to MoMa. In the evening, Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja will be Honorary Guests at the American Scandinavian Foundation’s Centennial Ball.  

Saturday, October 22

In the morning, Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja visit the Norwegian Seamen’s Church. Depart for Oslo.
