“World on the Wall: Globetrotting through Vesterheim's Fine Art Collection” will be on view at Vesterheim, the national Norwegian-American museum and heritage center, from December 3, 2016 to October 29, 2017. This new exhibition features a selection of works that reveal the world through artists’ eyes. Scenes from five continents include rivers, seascapes, city views, and portraits.

See over 35 rare and rarely displayed oils, watercolors, prints, and drawings by artists like Jonas Lie, Christian Abrahamsen, Anna Hong, Sigmund Årseth, and Herbjørn Gausta. In addition to works by popular artists, the exhibition includes several never-before exhibited and rarely exhibited works, such as portraits done in Cairo by Hermann Schultz and scenes of Medfield, Massachusetts, by Knute O. Svendsen.

Through 33,000 artifacts and 12 historic buildings, Vesterheim, the national Norwegian-American museum and heritage center in Decorah, Iowa, shares the most comprehensive collection of Norwegian-American artifacts in the world. This treasure is also a center for folk-art education, offering a wide variety of classes in authentic Norwegian folk art every year.
