Minister of Research and Higher Education Tora Aasland flew to Washington DC after only two days in office, to participate in the Transatlantic Science Week at the Carnegie Institution. A declaration on transatlantic collaboration was signed on October 22 by the minister and by Deputy Assistant Secretary Thomas A Farrell, Bureau of Education and Cultural affairs, US Dept of State. Fred Kavli presented the Kavli Prize to be awarded for the first time in 2008. More than 80 speakers contributed to the high quality of this year’s program with some 250 registered participants.
