"The Almost Man" screening at Disappearing Act V

Disappearing Act V, a European Film Festival in New York will be showing the Norwegian film "The Almost Man" ("Mer eller mindre mann"), directed by Martin Lund on Monday, April 15 at 7:00 pm, followed by Q&A with Lund. Norwegian screenwriter and director Martin Lund's feature film debut which he wrote, premiered in competition at the 48th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2012, was screened at the 36th Gothenburg International Film Festival in 2013, was shot on location in the municipality of Lørenskog in Norway and is a Norwegian production which was produced by Norwegian producer Ruben Thorkildsen. It tells the story about a 35-year-old man named Henrik Sandvik who moves in to a new house with his pregnant girlfriend Tone. Read more >

The operetta "Song of Norway" at Carnegie Hall

A grand operetta in the truest sense, Song of Norway pays homage to the music and story of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg with the perfect combination of thrilling melodies, brilliant lyrics, humor and romance. The Collegiate Chorale will give Wright and Forrest's 1944 classic a fresh and festive presentation on April 30, 6:30 pm at Carnegie Hall, featuring Broadway talents Jason Danieley, Alexandra Silber, Santino Fontana, Walter Charles, Marni Nixon, David Garrison, and Judy Kaye, with Tom Gold Dance, the American Symphony Orchestra, and Conductor/Director Ted Sperling. NYC: Norway receiving the New Species Award

The government and people of Norway will receive a unique award on April 23rd in New York City: African Rainforest Conservancy's 2013 New Species Award; honoring Norway substantial support of the conservation of Tanzanian rainforest, ARCs zoologists will christen forever in the annals of science the beautiful frog, recently discovered in Tanzania's Udzungwa Mountains, Leptopelis norvegiorum.Read more >

Kjersti Kveli and the KK GROUP –Annual Concert & Special Event at the Norwegian Church!
	Norwegian and New York based singer/songwriter Kjersti Kveli together with her band the KK GROUP, will joyfully give their annual concert at the Norwegian Seamen’s Church on Wednesday April 24th – at 7pm. Sverre Bjertnes: If you really loved me you would be able to admit that you're ashamed of me.

White Columns is proud to present the first solo exhibition in the United States by the NewYork-based Norwegian artist Sverre Bjertnes. The exhibition has been developed by Bjertnes in collaboration with the artist Bjarne Melgaard, and expands upon their earlier collaborative projects presented in 2012 at Oslo’s Rod Bianco Gallery and Galleri K, and at New York’s Maccarone Gallery in 2011 - as a part of the widely celebrated exhibition After Shelley Duvall ’72 curated by Melgaard. Museum of Modern Art presents Munch's The Scream

Edvard Munch’s iconic The Scream (1895), among the most celebrated and recognized images in art history, will be on view at The Museum of Modern Art for a period of six months. Of the four versions of The Scream made by Munch between 1893 and 1910, this pastel-on-board from 1895 is the only one remaining in private hands; the three other versions are in the collections of museums in Norway. The Scream is being lent by a private collector.Read more >

MUNCH | WARHOL and the Multiple Image at Scandinavia House
	The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) presents MUNCH | WARHOL and the Multiple Image, an exhibition featuring two of the 20th century’s most prolific and inventive printmakers. Curated by Dr. Patricia Berman and Pari Stave, the exhibition will be on view April 27 through July 27, 2013 at Scandinavia House: The Nordic Center in America.Read more >

Riitta Ikonen and Karoline Hjorth: Eyes as Big as Plates

From February 15th until April 26th, Riitta Ikonen and Karoline Hjorth will be working on a new chapter in their series Eyes as Big as Plates as part of Recess’s signature program, Session. Session invites artists to use Recess’s public space as studio, exhibition venue, and grounds for experimentation. Over the course of their Session, Ikonen and Hjorth will create costumes and photographs in collaboration with senior residents of New York who show a marked connection to their national and cultural roots. The resulting works will be on show in Red Hook throughout the residency, with reception and presentation at March 22nd.Read more >

SAGA by Wakka Wakka at Baruch Performing Arts Center
	SAGA is a theatrical puppet show by the award-winning American/Norwegian company Wakka Wakka. The show features 30 puppets, ranging from 3 inches to 10 feet, portrayed by an international cast of puppeteers from Iceland, Norway, Ireland and the US, and will run from March 7 to April 14 at Baruch Performing Arts Center.Read more >

Kvelertak is playing in NYC on the National Day of Norway, May 17

The hardcore favorites of Kvelertak will be playing in NYC at Webster Hall on the National Day of Norway, on May 17. The band is going on an extended U.S. tour this spring, joined by the metal bands Cancer Bats and Black tusk. Equally loved by fans and critics, Kvelertak is known for their high energy shows and performing with Norwegian lyrics. Kvelertak (meaning stranglehold or chokehold) is a six-piece black n roll band from Stavanger, Norway, formed in 2007. All lyrics are written in Norwegian, the band’s native language, and concerning Norse mythology/Viking folklore.Read more >

Between Coasts at Trygve Lie Gallery
	Between Coasts is a multimedia exhibition about emigration from Western Norway to the U.S. Presented by The Western Norway Emigration Centre and Trygve Lie Gallery, it focuses on the act of leaving home and finding another: between deep fjords and skyscrapers. Trygve Lie Gallery is located on 317 E 52nd St in Manhattan. The exhibit will be on view from March 21st through May 1st. Read more >

C YA! - An exhibition at NOoSPHERE Arts in NYC

C YA! includes visual artists Ingrid W. Berven and Lillian Presthus, a collaboration featuring torn up portrait images that have been weaved into images, and video art. The exhibition is curated by Bjørn Inge Follevåg, Director of Kabuso Art Museum and will be on display at the NOoSPHERE Arts gallery on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The Norwegian feature "Before Snowfall" to compete at the Tribeca Film Festival 2013

The Norwegian director Hisham Zaman and his movie Before Snowfall will be the only Nordic contender in the World Narrative Competition at this year's Tribeca Film Festival. Before Snowfall is an untraditional road movie about family, love, dignity and honor. The feature just won the Dragon Award Best Nordic Film at Göteborg International Film Festival in Sweden. Tribeca Film Festival will be running in New York City between 7 - 28 April. Read more >

Oslo on the Hudson: Performa announces Norwegian pavilion

New York’s premier art event will have a special focus on Norway this November. This week Performa launched a new international program; “Pavilions Without Walls” - a new international program partnering with countries from all over the world. The Performa Pavilions program sets up large-scale collaborations between Performa and each of the participating countries, so that their international artists, cultural institutions, and art industry workers can be connected not only with the New York City cultural landscape, but with global audiences as well. As a kick off for 2013 Performa announces the participation of Norway and Poland. Read more >

The Norwegian Language Institute offering Norwegian language courses in NYC.
	Norwegian Language Institute teaches beginners courses in Norwegian language and operates at the Norwegian Seamens Church on Manhattan. The school is now launching a new concept, “Norwegian in 1, 2, 3” which teaches fundamentals and then provides you with more tools to get a grip of the whole language. "Foil" - an exhibition by Ole Martin Lund Bø

Norwegian artist Ole Martin Lund Bø will be showing his exhibition Foil at the Denny Gallery located in Manhattan. The show will be running from April 6th through May 12th. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, April 7th, 2013, 6 – 8 PM. Ole Martin Lund Bø does exhibitions in both Norway and Germany, and was a guest at the International Studio & Curatorial Program in New York City from 2006 to 2007. Read more >
