Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway opened the MUNCH|WARHOL and The Multiple Image exhibition last week, now be sure to see it at Scandinavia House. There will be a conversation discussing Munch and his continued influence on contemporary art May 11. MUNCH | WARHOL and the Multiple Image at Scandinavia House
	The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) presents MUNCH | WARHOL and the Multiple Image, an exhibition featuring two of the 20th century’s most prolific and inventive printmakers. Curated by Dr. Patricia Berman and Pari Stave, the exhibition will be on view April 27 through July 27, 2013 at Scandinavia House: The Nordic Center in America.Read more >

Turbonegro playing in Manhattan, NYC.
	Make sure to catch the famous Norwegian rock’n’roll band Turbonegro, when they play at Irving Plaza the 18th of May. The band just released their new album Sexual Harrasment and will start their tour all over the United States with their performance in New York City. Read more >

Kvelertak is playing in NYC on the National Day of Norway, May 17

The hardcore favorites of Kvelertak will be playing in NYC at Webster Hall on the National Day of Norway, on May 17. The band is going on an extended U.S. tour this spring, joined by the metal bands Cancer Bats and Black tusk. Equally loved by fans and critics, Kvelertak is known for their high energy shows and performing with Norwegian lyrics. Kvelertak (meaning stranglehold or chokehold) is a six-piece black n roll band from Stavanger, Norway, formed in 2007. All lyrics are written in Norwegian, the band’s native language, and concerning Norse mythology/Viking folklore.Read more >

Munch and the Moving Image

In conjunction with the ASF exhibition MUNCH | WARHOL and the Multiple Image, Scandinavia House presents a small survey of films about Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, delving in to the iconoclast’s life, multifaceted artistic concerns, and discursive influence – in art and film – through the ages. Munch and the Moving Image will be running from May 1 through the 17th, Wednesdays at 7 PM and Fridays at 6:30 PM. Read more >

Screening at NYU Skirball Center – Munch 150
	EXHIBITION is a new theatrical series of events, bringing the world’s greatest art exhibitions to cinema screens worldwide. EXHIBITION will feature the world’s foremost upcoming art exhibitions, creatively captured especially for the big screen. "Foil" - an exhibition by Ole Martin Lund Bø

Norwegian artist Ole Martin Lund Bø will be showing his exhibition Foil at the Denny Gallery located in Manhattan. The show will be running from April 6th through May 12th. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, April 7th, 2013, 6 – 8 PM. Ole Martin Lund Bø does exhibitions in both Norway and Germany, and was a guest at the International Studio & Curatorial Program in New York City from 2006 to 2007. Read more >

Insects: Real and Imaginary, an exhibition

"Insects: Real and Imaginary," an extensive survey of bold and colorful insect-inspired paintings by Claus Hoie (b. Stavanger, Norway, 1911 - d. East Hampton, NY, 2007) will be on view at Clinton Academy Museum, from June 1 through June 30. Watercolors in the exhibition span the last three decades of the artist's life. A number have been shown in museums and galleries in New York and elsewhere, but many are on view for the first time. The largest works represent Hoie's focus during his final years and this group includes pieces that were made for presentation at the National Academy of Design Museum. A number of loans come from private collectors. Read more >

Foreign Minister Eide re-opened UN Security Council Chamber

Trond Are Berge exhibiting at Agora Gallery

Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Norwegian artist Trond Are Berge in Altered States of Reality: An Exhibition of Analog and Digital Photography. In a special gesture of generosity and in an effort to help art make the world a better place this artist is donating a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the displayed artwork to the Cameras for Kids Foundation. Cameras for Kids, was established to encourage artistic ability in underprivileged children, and to help them develop new skills, abilities and confidence through photographic lessons and the use of cameras. The exhibition is scheduled to run from April 19, 2013 through May 9, 2013. The opening reception will be held on Thursday night, April 25, 2013 from 6-8 pm.Read more >

Oslo on the Hudson: Performa announces Norwegian pavilion

New York’s premier art event will have a special focus on Norway this November. This week Performa launched a new international program; “Pavilions Without Walls” - a new international program partnering with countries from all over the world. The Performa Pavilions program sets up large-scale collaborations between Performa and each of the participating countries, so that their international artists, cultural institutions, and art industry workers can be connected not only with the New York City cultural landscape, but with global audiences as well. As a kick off for 2013 Performa announces the participation of Norway and Poland. Read more >

The Norwegian Language Institute offering Norwegian language courses in NYC.
	Norwegian Language Institute teaches beginners courses in Norwegian language and operates at the Norwegian Seamens Church on Manhattan. The school is now launching a new concept, “Norwegian in 1, 2, 3” which teaches fundamentals and then provides you with more tools to get a grip of the whole language. 17 May Parade in Brooklyn

The next annual parade to celebrate the 17th of May will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2013 starting at 1:30 p.m. Followed by a grandstand in Leif Erikson Park. The theme for this year's 61st, 17th of May Committee (Norwegian Day Parade Committee) is “Sharing Norwegian Traditions.” The word tradition, triggers a flood of images and ideas. One thinks of food (krumkaker), holiday celebrations (dancing around the Christmas tree) and special handiwork (Norwegian sweaters). Yes, these are all examples of Norwegian traditions. Read more >
