Sami Rights Pioneer Magne Ove Varsi Completes U.S. Tour

Sami rights pioneer Magne Ove Varsi toured the United States February 6-20, 2011, visiting Texas, New Mexico, Hawaii and Minnesota. From sunny Hawaii to snowy Minnesota, the tour was a productive and exciting experience for both Mr. Varsi and his audiences.
Mr. Varsi met with scholars and university students and professors, high school students, tribal leaders and Hawaiian leaders, and was the featured speaker at conferences and symposia in Hawaii and Minnesota.

Magne Ove Varsi is a Sami rights pioneer and founder/director of the Gáldu Resource Centre for the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Kautokeino, Norway (www.galdu.org). Gáldu was established by an order of the Norwegian government. The resource centre was created to increase information about the rights of Sami and other indigenous peoples. The Centre is independent, governed by its own board and funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusions and by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
