On Monday, September 6, 2010, Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre addressed the community of researchers participating in the 2010 Kavli Prize Science Forum in Oslo. “Our room for manoeuvre as politicians is in large part shaped by the knowledge you, as scientists, produce,” Støre said. Polar explorer and environmentalist Will Steger has brought youth from Norway, the United States, and Canada together on Arctic expeditions and climate research. Now, the Will Steger Foundation is embarking on a new kind of expedition, one that does not involve skiing and sled dogs but brings the youth voice to international talks on climate change. This fall the University of Minnesota and the Royal Norwegian Embassy hosted Transatlantic Science Week. These annual meetings were initiated by the Norwegian government in 2001 to strengthen cooperation in research, innovation, and higher education between Norway, the United States, and Canada.
