101 years after her great-grandfather and wearing the same gown, Princess Ingrid Alexandra was babtized at the Royal Palace in Oslo on Saturday. And although the little one spent the entire ceremony crying, Bishop Gunnar Stålsett declared that it was a day of warm feelings. See the pictures here!
4/20/2004 :: The Christening of HRH Princess Ingrid Alexandra took place in the chapel inside the Royal Palace in Oslo on Saturday, April 17, 2004.
Around 300 guests attended the ceremony, where the Princess was babtized wearing the same christening gown her great-grandfather, the late King Olav V, wore in 1903.
Third in line
The young Princess will most likely become Norway's queen one day. If she does, she will be the first reigning queen in Norway since 1412.
This is the first time a daughter of Norway’s "crown couple" is born to inherit the throne. In 1990 section 6 of the Constitution was changed to give both sexes equal right to inherit Norway’s throne. The child now born thus enters the order of succession as number two – after her father the Crown Prince.
Foreign Minister Jan Petersen has said he is convinced that the birth will further strengthen the role of the monarchy in Norwegian society.
Ingrid Alexandra's chosen godparents are His Majesty the King, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Denmark, Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess of Sweden, His Royal Highness The Prince of Asturias, Princess Märtha Louise and Mrs. Marit Tjessem -- her maternal grandmother.
