Gardar at Whitney Biennial

 Type:Sculpture, Visual Arts
 Location:New York

Norwegian artist Gardar Eide Einarsson takes part in the Whitney Biennial Exhibition.

4/4/2008 :: The Norwegian artist will present sculptures and a series of photos at the exhibition. Einarsson was born in Oslo, and lives in New York. In his artworks, he investigates forms of social transgression and arguments for political subversion. He borrows imagery from underground cultures, and uses logos and symols to recontextualize meaning and create a tension between the images and the action it compels the viewer to take. As the Whitney Biennal puts it, his work has a "stylish punk sheen that evokes rebellion through its cold, hard-edged rejection of sentiment."

Two years ago 100 artists showed off their work at the Whitney Biennial Exhibition. This year the number of artists has shrunken to 81. No wonder why Gardar Eide Einarsson is very pleased of being one of the selected artists.

“This means I am regarded as being a part of the art scene here in New York”, the 31 years old artists says to Dagbladet, a Norwegian newspaper.

The Biennal will be open from March 6 - June 1, extending to Park Avenue Armory between March 6 and 23. This is the 74th in the series of Annual and Biennial exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of Amercian Art. Apart from offering a broad range of artists from different art fields, this year's Biennal also features a tequila bar, a dancing marathon and a sleepover!

When: March 6 - June 1 / March 6 - 23
Where: 945 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10021
Info: Whitney Museum of American Art: 1 (800) WHITNEY or (212) 570-3676.
