Revels Houston is a community-based performing arts organization, which celebrates and preserves different cultural traditions through music, song, dance and theater. This year's Christmas Revels show will focus on Scandinavia and northern Russia, and Revels Houston has invited the dance troupe Småjondølane from Norway. The Norwegian Consulate General is one of this year's sponsors of the Christmas Revels.
12/11/2006 :: Travel north with fellow Revelers to the countries of Iceland, Scandinavia and Finland and to the region of Karelia in north-western Russia, to the wintry lands of ancient forests, frozen lakes and small villages. Join the Karelian Folk Music Ensemble as they bring together Finnish, Russian and Karelian cultures to create an enchanting mix of song, instrumentation and storytelling, recounting the ancient epic poem of the Kalevala. Enjoy the vigorous, exciting dances of Norway as performed by Norwegian National Dance Champions Karin Brennesvik and Tom Løvli who, along with Eivind Bakken, are members of the Norwegian dance troupe, Småjondølane. Delight in the instrumental accompaniment of Hardanger fiddler Toby Weinberg, fiddler Eden MacAdam-Somer, guitarist Larry Unger and, and Nyckelharpist Ginny Lee.
