The Museum of Comic and Cartoon art returns to the Puck building for their annual Art Fest, and like last year, the Nordic Countries are not far away.
4/24/2008 :: In fact, they’ll be occupying an entire wall on the seventh floor, showcasing the ultimate of indie cartoons from Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland.
From Norway comes three publishers; No Comprendo Press, which is responsible releases such as the widely acclaimed Olaf G, considered by many to be the best Graphic Novel ever to come out of Norway. No Comprendo’s own magazine, Findus, has been on the forefront of Norwegian comics since its inception in 1993.
Jippi Comics is the Norwegian publisher of Jason, perhaps the most recognized name among comic connoisseurs internationally from Norway. They also released the groundbreaking Ikaros by Manuele Fior.
Dongery is both an art collective and publisher of fanzines and comic books etc. Based in Oslo, Norway, Dongery has been putting out unique material since 1997, and is now gradually moving into the English-language market, both in Europe and the USA.
Lars Fiske is a Norwegian artist who published Olaf G. with Steffen Kverneland in 2006. His collaboration with Steffen Kverneland continues in Kanon, where they explore the lives of Kurt Schwitter and Edvard Munch. Fiske also regularly contributes editorial cartoons to Norwegian newspapers, and has recently published his first children’s book.
The Norwegian publishers will make a very limited edition anthology of Norwegian comics which you’ll probably only be able to get your hands on at the Art Fest.
