His debut feature, “Sons”, received rave reviews from Norwegian as well as American critics. Now Erik Richter Strand visits Scandinavia House for a Q&A following screenings of the film.
Norwegian director Erik Richter Strand will introduce his 2006 debut feature film "Sønner" ("Sons") and participate in a Q&A following two screenings at Scandinavia House. "Sons" will be screened on Wednesday, March 26 at 6:30 pm and Saturday, March 29 at 3 pm as part of Scandinavia House’s “Recent Films from Scandinavia” series, which runs through May 24, 2008.
"Sons" has received rave reviews from American critics. “Outstanding…” writes Robert Abele in the Los Angeles Times, “a nervy film that earns its genre shifts among dark comedy, drama and thriller.” “A hard-hitting and thoughtful drama about a young man’s quest to expose a pedophile, 'Sons' is an impressive first film…” says Gunnar Rehlin in Variety. The film “maintains interest without slipping into cliché, and has an ending both satisfying and unexpected.”
"Sons" was awarded the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Award at the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival (2006), the FICC Jury Award–Don Quixote Award at the Black Night Film Festival, Tallinn (2006), and the Grand Jury Prize at the Seattle International Film Festival (2007).
