Join in as the New York Revels celebrate the season in their Christmas Revels: a Celebration of the Winter Solstice with a number of Revels performances in New York City this December.
The performances will feature a collaborative effort between the local community and performers from the Scandinavian countries, including the competition winning Springar Dancers of the Norskedansere group, featuring Karin Brennesvik, Tom Løvli, and Erling Bakken, one of Norway's finest Halling dancers.
A holiday tradition for 28 years, The Christmas Revels returns again to Peter Norton Symphony Space’s Peter Jay Sharp Theater for 5 performances of mumming, music and dance in celebration of the Winter Solstice.
Produced by Nancy Petaja, directed by Jonathan Fluck, and music directed by Cynthia Shaw, this year’s Christmas Revels features the music, songs, stories and traditions of the Nordic countries.
Audience and cast lines blur at the Revels as together we sing carols and rounds, both ancient and familiar. And, at the end of Act One, “The Lord of the Dance,” one of the Revels’ own rituals, will have you dancing in the aisles. Along the way, there’ll be high art and low, including the haunting poetry of the Kalevala, exquisite Scandinavian music, spectacular Norwegian dances, joyful Swedish polska dances, songs, stories and more. The 2007 Christmas Revels is sponsored by the Norwegian Consulate General.
Performance Schedule:
Friday, December 7 at 8pm
