Roda Ahmed will read from her debut novel ”Forberedelsen” at the Norwegian Seamen’s Church in New York on May 20. Presented in Norwegian.
5/16/2008 :: Ms. Ahmed was born in Somalia in 1981, and migrated to Norway, where she studied anthropology in Trondheim. Her debut novel deals with issues of life as the child of immigrant parents and her bicultural experience, with both a Somalian and a Norwegian identity, through the voice of Zora, who comes at odds with her family’s values when she falls in love with a Norwegian man.
Norwegian daily Aftenposten calls the novel an “exiting glimpse into the life of a Somali-Norwegian family” and descirbes Ahmed as a “distinct literary talent.”
The reading, which is presented in Norwegian, will be preceded by a mini-concert featuring the Swedish-Norwegian piano/vocal duo Lisa Ullén and Lisa Dillan.
