The highly acclaimed Oslo String Quartet is giving a performance in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on Sunday January 23, 2005.
1/19/2005 :: Since it was founded in 1991, the Oslo String Quartet has established itself as one of the leading chamber music ensembles in Scandinavia. It has achieved international acclaim through its concert tours and recordings. The Quartet has a wide-ranging repertoire. Naturally, the ensemble's point of departure is in the classics, but its repertoire also includes works by contemporary composers. The Oslo String Quartet received the Performer of the Year award from the Norwegian Society of Composers in 1998, mainly on the basis of the group's extensive work with Norwegian music.

W. Stenhammar: String Quartet # 5 (Serenade)
Lasse Thoresen: Pyr Aionion*
Beethoven: String Quartet # 2, Opus 59 (Rasumovski)
* Dedicated to and written for the Oslo String Quartet. This performance is an American Premier. The world premiere was given during the 2000 Schleswig-Holstein Festival and was extremely well received. Lasse Thoresen is one of Norway's foremost composers.
