Norwegian jazz band BALLROGG will heat up a number of U.S. cities from March 28 through April 3. The tour comes in the wake of the release of the duo's first album.
3/13/2008 :: BALLROGG is a duo with Klaus Ellerhusen Holm (sax, clar) and Roger Arntzen (double bass). Klaus Ellerhusen Holm is the leader of another group called Klaus Holm Kollektif, which was awarded "Yong Nordic Jazzcomets 2003". Roger Arntzen is known from the piano trio In The Country, who was awarded "Young Jazz Musicians Of The Year 2004" in Norway.
BALLROGG is exploring the music of Eric Dolphy in a small format, stripped down to only bass and reeds. Songs from greats such as Paul Bley, Ornette Coleman and Jimmy Giuffre was soon also brought into the concept, aside with compositions by the group itself. The results is some frijazz-classics combined with spacy and energic originals placed into an arid chamber setting.
The duo released their debut album March 6, 2008 on Bolage. Experience them live in the following cities:
March 28: New York (The Norwegian Seamen´s
Church - in conjunction with book release)
March 28: New York (Goodbye Blue Monday)
