What better way to promote an album than to go on a tour? The folk song group Trio Mediaeval is touring the U.S. from November 27.

Trio Mediaeval is famed for its diverse polyphonic repertoire and pristine vocal lines, and the forth and latest album is no exception. The songs have a hint of both the past and the present.

“Although these songs bear our musical imprint, they are coloured by all those who have performed and passed the music before us”, the group explains.

Popular
Following the album release, the group went on tour. First stop was Belgium, and now they are heading for the US. Their luggage this time includes a "forth" member, Birger Mistereggen, who plays the drums.

The group has received great critics from all the biggest newspapers in Norway, and Joshua Kosman of the San Francisco Chronicle writes, "Singing doesn't get more unnervingly beautiful."

Sacred and contemporary
The Norwegian songs to be presented in the concerts complement the repertoire of sacred music and contemporary pieces that has made the group famous since they began singing together in Oslo in 1997. Though Anna Maria Friman, Linn Andrea Fuglseth and Torunn Østrem Ossum did not grow up as folk musicians, these are songs they have known since childhood.

The ensemble released its first CD, Words of the Angel, on ECM Records in October 2001. The album immediately went to The Billboard Top 10 Bestsellers list and was the April 2002 Stereophile Recording of the Month. Folk Songs is the group’s fourth album. The trio has collaborated with many contemporary composers including Gavin Bryars, Ivan Moody and Bang on a Can. The group appeared on American Public Media’s Saint Paul Sunday in October 2005.
