Fight the winter blues .. With winter jazz! On February 11, Norwegian Grammy winner Petter Wettre with band visits one of New York City’s most prestigious jazz clubs, Jazz at Lincoln Center, for a concert that is sure to warm you up and brighten your winter.
2/4/2008 :: Petter Wettre has since the early 90s established himself as one of Norway`s most important performers on the tenor saxophone. This February, he won the prestigeous Norwegian Grammy ("Spellemannsprisen") in the jazz category. As a Berklee graduate, Petter returned to the Norwegian jazz scene from the U.S. in 1992, and has since released 13 albums, 8 of which on his own label; “Household Records”. In 96 he released his first album; “Pig Virus”, which earned him a Norwegian Grammy nomination. A four time nominee, the latest in 2004, Petter won the prestigious prize in 2000 for the album; “The only way to travel”, a duet album with drummer Per Oddvar Johansen.
Petter Wettre`s new album; “Fountain of Youth” has received overwhelming reviews from a unison press this fall, as well as another Norwegian grammy nomination. The quartet features; Erlend Slettevoll – piano, Jonas Westergaard – bass and Anders Mogensen – drums.
On February 4, you should also check out NYNDK, "a pointedly cosmopolitan post-bop collective," according to the New York Times. This New York/Norway/Denmark jazz ensemble features Ole Mathisen on saxophone
The concerts are part of the Northern Lights jazz series, in which artists from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden perform at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The Nordic artists will play two sets, one at 7:30pm, one at 9:30pm. Dates are as follows:
