Eivind Opsvik releases his new CD, "Overseas III" at Nublu in East Village, on Sunday May 18th.
Born in Oslo in 1973, jazz musician Eivind Opsvik moved to New York in 1998 to take part of the city's rich music scene. Since then he has been involved in numerous projects and is currently a member of several New York bands - like Opsvik & Jennings, The UP, Rocket Engine and Ben Gerstein Collective.
Overseas is his own group, together with saxophonist Tony Malaby, drummer Kenny Wollesen and pianist Jaocb Sacks. They have become a mainstay in NYC’s progressive jazz scene, performing regular gigs at hotspots like Barbès, Nublu, 55Bar, Knitting Factory and Zebulon.
The new album, released on Opsvik's own, newly started record label Loyal Label, is released in the U.S. on May 6th, and includes seven new tunes. For the release party on the 18th, Håkon Kornstad's Single Engine will do a solo performance as the opening set at 9pm. Then, Overseas will play two sets starting at 10pm.
Oh, and the CDs will be available following "the Radiohead model"; Pay what you want.
