Silje Nes on U.S. Tour

 Date:3/16/2008 - 4/6/2008
 Type:Music
Location:Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia, Washington D.C.

This March, Norwegian artist Silje Nes will make her first performances in the U.S. The tour comes in the wake of the North American release of ‘Ames Room’ on March 11.

Silje’s album “Ames Room” was released in 2007 on Fat Cat records, the label of Iceland’s Sigurd Ros. And like them, Silje offers a startlingly crisp and fragile soundscape with barely audible vocals and rich textures. She started out with a laptop and instruments she didn’t know in her room, gradually building on sounds she liked, looping them together to create music that’s not based on conventions of how instruments should be played, but rather an organic exploration of their possibilities. Ames Room was released in North America on March 11. Prior to that, Silje recently released the digital-only EP Yellow.

Silje grew up on the West Coast of Norway, and still lives there but has relocated to Bergen, by many argued to be the musical capitol of Norway, having seen such great bands as Datarock, Ralph Myerz, Annie and Sondre Lerche break out of Norway and on to bigger markets.

As a young artist, Nes’ live performances have been few and far between so far. However, the few concerts she has held have been well received, so those partial to intelligent, well-constructed pop should make sure not to miss out on these shows.

On this first effort in the U.S. Silje will accompany the San Fransisco based noise-folk duo the Dodos.
