How can you visualize the content of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights through photography? Visit Trygve Lie Gallery in New York to find out.

In 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In connection with 2008’s 60 year anniversary for the Declaration, Trygve Lie Gallery presents "Human Rights Pictures"  an exhibition illustrating the 30 Human Rights Articles. The exhibition features artworks by photographer Turi Aksdal.

The opening reception will be on Thursday, March 13, 6-8PM, when the exhibition will be opened by Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF, Ms. Hilde Frafjord Johnson.

Born in Haugesund, Norway, in 1962, Aksdal worked for a long time as a commercial photographer, but is now focusing on art photography. She has wom several prices for her photographs, and she has been working for several years trying to visualize the content of the Declaration. “I’ve been struggling for a long time to find the right expression for the diverse content in these articles,” she says. “But it’s been an exciting process, and I’m very happy with the result.”
