Anki King Opens Her Studio

 Date:11/17/2007 - 11/18/2007
 Type:Painting, Sculpture
 Location:New York

Meat, blood and dirt; Anki King uses colors that erupt from human substance when she paints. She loves creating a visceral image.

"While working, I let the paint spill and drip, creating tracks and layers that leave the evolution of the work visible - like the scars life leaves on our bodies", says Anki King, who along with 40 other artists is opening up her studio and shows her work.

Even though she is now working on a series of memory and dream based oil paintings, most of Kings sculptures and paintings are of human beings.

"The human form is to me the most direct way of expressing emotions and emotions are the essential force in my work", says the artist, who rarely uses sketches while she is working. She wants to keep her paintings and drawings immediate, and she enjoys the process of discovery and surprises when she creates something for the first time.

When: November 17-18 at 12 to 6 pm
Where: Crane Street Studios, 46-23 Crane Street, right off of Jackson Ave Long Island City, NY 11101
