Scholarship for American Students

The Norwegian Children’s Home Association of New York, Inc. has just announced that it will commence accepting college grant applications for the academic year of 2008-2009.

1/30/2008 :: The grants are based on need, and will consist of a Financial Grant or a Merit Grant. The Financial Grants are awarded in the $500.00 to $4,000.00 range, and the Merit Grants in the $500.00 to $2,000.00 range.

25 percent Norwegian
Applicants must be citizens and residents of the USA for at least one year, and enrolled at or accepted into a full time program of study at an American undergraduate school of higher learning for the 08-09 academic year. They must also be of at least 25 percent Norwegian ancestry.

This requirement may however be waived in what the Association calls "exceptional circumstances", if the applicant "shows a significant Norwegian affiliation." The decision to waive this requirement is up to the discretion of the Association and its Awards Committee.

Criteria
Applications must be submitted with an official transcript of grades from the applicant’s current school and two letters of recommendation. In case of a Financial Grant application, a copy of the 1040 Income Tax Return filed for the previous tax year, for the applicant and her/his parent(s) or guardian(s), must also be submitted.

The applications and documents must be received by the Scholarship Committee by March 15th, 2008, and award notification can be expected on or before May 30th, 2008.
