The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) invites U.S. colleges and universities to apply for funding to host a visiting lecturer from Norway or Sweden.
5/23/2008 :: The awards are for appointments of one semester, and should fall within the 2009-2010 academic year. Lectureships should be in the area of contemporary studies with an emphasis on one of these areas: Public Policy; Conflict Resolution; Environmental Studies; Multiculturalism; or Healtcare. Open to all American colleges and universities, the award is appropriate for any department or inter-disciplinary program with an interest in incorporating a Scandinavian focus into its course offerings.
The lecturer must be a Norwegian or Swedish citizen, and a scholar or expert in a field appropriate to the host department or program. The selected lecturer is expected to teach one course and perform modest public activities (lectures, etc.) for which he or she will receive $20,000. The lecturer is also expected to accept invitations to visit other academic institutions and conferences, for which he or she will have $5,000 available in travel funds. The Award also includes a J-1 Vvisa sponsorship as a short-term scholar.
Applicants are asked to submit a letter of intent by November 1, 2008. A full application, providing final details of the visiting lecturer and the complementary support provided by the host institution, must be submitted by January 30, 2009. Decisions will be announced on March 30, 2009.
