May 17th is a national holiday for Norwegians abroad as well as for those at home. For a real celebration, join the Norwegian Seamen's Church!
To celebrate the Constitution of 1814, the Norwegian Seamen's Churches in Houston, New Orleans and Miami will arrange traditional May 17th parties.
The Seamen's Church in Houston welcomes you to attend their party, in the location of the church in Pasadena. The program starts at 1:00 p.m. and includes family service, speeches, the May 17th parade, food, ice cream, and lots of fun for children, big and small, old and young. If you want to help the church in arranging this great day by volunteering or bringing cakes, the church can be reached by e-mail. Entrance is $15 for adults and $10 for children.
In New Orleans the Seamen's Church will start the celebration with raising the Norwegian flag at 10:45 a.m., followed by a service in the church. At noon Lars Edegran and his marching band will provide music, followed by the parade at 12:15 p.m. Dinner will be served at 1:00 p.m., salmon with sides and - most importantly - desserts, for $15,- per adult and $10,- per child. Ms Kari Riis will give a speech at 1:30 p.m. before the day ends with games for all from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Celebrations in Miami will start at 2:00 p.m. and include a service, speeches, songs, parades and games. The Seamen's Church will also sell ice cream, lapskaus and hotdogs, and welcomes everybody to join in on the celebrations! Questions can be directed to the church on 1-305-238-2814.
