Are the massive Arctic climate changes an eerie foreshadowing of what will soon happen in the rest of the world? On October 2-5, The Carnegie Institution and the Royal Norwegian Embassy invite you to a research conference on climate change with Arctic dimensions.
10/30/2006 :: It is no longer a matter of "if" or "when": The Arctic Ice is melting right now, in this very moment. The rapid warming in the Arctic region is a bellwether for global climate change.
Transatlantic collaborative research on climate, environment, space and natural resources points at dramatic changes in the polar regions of the world. And in order to manage our common future, Transatlantic collaboration is key.
At the 2006 Transatlantic Research Conference at the Carnegie Institution, leading scientists will present research and complex models pointing towards the urgency for action, and policy makers from both sides of the Atlantic will discuss the best ways to act.

ABOUT Science Week 2006: ARCTIC MELTDOWN
The Science Week in Washington DC is organized for the 5th time in 2006, and includes the 4th Transatlantic research conference at the Carnegie Institution in Washington DC, and also the annual meeting of the advisory board of The Norwegian Research, Innovation & Higher Education Forum in the United States.
Climate change and transatlantic cooperation is and has been the main focus through the previous Science Weeks. This year we are looking ahead to the International Polar Year (IPY), and thus the 2006 event is emphasizing arctic dimensions in the global climate change and in international research cooperation.
