Sten Arne Rosnes is the Consul General of Norway in San Francisco.
The Consulate General in San Francisco covers the 13 most western states in the United States. There are 65 million people in this area. 38 million only in California. In the Bay Area alone there are between 40 - 50.000 people of Norwegian descent and 5 - 6.000 Norwegian citizens.
The purpose of our presence is to take care of Norwegian interests ranging from consular services to the individual to promoting Norwegian culture, assisting Norwegian businesses and reporting on political and economic affairs of importance for Norway.
There are for the time being 11 people employed at the Consulate General in San Francisco.
Consular Services
The Consulate General in San Francisco provides consular services in the following states: California, Arizona, New Mexico, Montana, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii.
Culture and information Services
One of the important tasks of the Consulate General is to provide information about Norway. We are involved in a number of events every year and we work closely with cultural and academic institutions in our area.

Opening Hours
Opening hours are: Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. We are closed for lunch between 12:15 p.m. and 12:45 p.m.
Emergency Contact Information
In case of extreme emergencies (natural disasters etc. or consular emergencies that CANNOT be handled within the regular office hours) the Consulate General can be contacted at the following emergency number: (415) 370-2034.
This service should NOT be used to inquire about visa applications, passports or other matters that can be handled within regular office hours.
Holidays observed in 2008:
January 1, January 21, February 18, March 21, May 1, May 26, July 4, September 1, November 27, December 25 and December 26. December 24 and December 31 the Consulate General closes at noon.
