Consular services offered by the Consulate General to Norwegian nationals include issuance of passports, Norwegian national insurance benefits, emergency assistance, issuance of notifications of deaths, and acting as Notary Public legalizing signatures, translations etc.
In addition, the Consulate General assists Norwegian authorities with a range of legal issues. Acting om behalf of the Norwegian Maritime Directorate, the Consulate General handles maritime cases such as processing certificates, logbooks, registrations and transactions, and conducting Maritime Declarations.
The Consulate General also offers services for non-Norwegian nationals, issuing visas for visits to Norway (U.S. citizens do not need a visa for a visit of up to three months), and processing applications for Norwegian residence and work permits.
