Required documentation for Visa Applications

Last updated: 5/19/2011 // Visa applicants must bring the following documentation to the Consulate General along with a printout of the online application and reciept for online payment.

 Resident Alien Card (green card) or visa valid at least three months beyond the stay in the Schengen area. Bring original and copy.
• Photo in black or white, passport-size, meeting the photo requirements.
• Flight itinerary (preliminary booking is sufficient).We advice you not to purchase ticket before Visa application is approved.
• Travel/Health insurance which meets our requirements.
• Proof of accommodation for the entire stay in all Schengen countries.
• Passport/travel document, valid at least 3 months beyond the stay in the Schengen area.

Additional required documents for all business travelers

• An original signed letter from your company verifying employment, trip purpose and travel dates.
• An original signed letter from the inviting company, or a printout of a scanned original.
• If self-employed: Copies of business registration, tax return, and bank statements for the last 3 months.

Additional required documents for all tourism travelers
• Original letter from your company, verifying employment.
• Proof of sufficient funds: original bank statements for the last three months.
• If self-employed: Copies of business registration, tax return.
• If the applicant is a dependant, the sponsor must provide: Original employment verification, proof of sufficient funds, marriage certificate if the sponsor is a spouse.
• If the applicant is a minor: Both parents must meet in person at the Consulate General to sign the application. Also bring applicants birth certificate and parent's passport or other picture ID.

Additional required documents for visits to family or friends
• An informal invitation from your friend/relative, stating the nature of the visit, duration, and your relation to the host.
• For applicants to Norway: Form GP 7018B/E to be completed and signed by your host, and notarized (stamped) by the local police in Norway. This form must be signed by you and submitted in original with your application.We also need name, adress, copy of the host's passport and residence permit (if not a Norwegian citizen).  
• If the spouse of the applicant is citizen of the visa issuing country: The original marriage certificate must be presented.
• If the applicant is a minor: Application signed by both parents at the Consulate General's office. Birth certificate and parent's passport or other picture ID must be presented in original.

Please note

In some cases you may be asked to provide additional documents. Even with submission of all required documents, there is no guarantee that you will be granted a visa. Posession of a visa is only one of the prerequisites for entry into the European territory of the Schengen states. Even if a visa has been granted it does not mean that you will be entitled to compensation if you fail to comply with the relevant provisions of Article 5.1 of the Schengen Implementing Convention and are refused entry. The prerequisites for entry will be checked again on your entry into the European territory of the Schengen states.
