Holmenkollen Tourists’ Favorite in Norway

For the 11th year running Holmenkollen Ski Jump tops the list of the most visited Norwegian attractions in the summer season.

5/28/2008 :: Holmenkollen opened in 1892, and every year since a ski jumping competition has taken place at the site. Inside the mountain next to the ski jump, the world’s oldest ski museum can be found, established in 1923.

The list of the most visited sites shows that more than 600 000 tourists visited Holmenkollen between May 1 and August 31, 2005. Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park ranks second and Hadeland Glassworks ranks third on the list.

Frediksten Fortress in the city of Halden has the greatest increase in the number of tourists. 33 per cent more tourists have visited the fortress in 2005 compared to the previous year.

Innovation Norway each year presents a list showing the 50 most visited tourist sites during the summer season in Norway. The list is based on the number of tickets sold for each attraction. The Vigeland Park in Oslo is assumed to have more than one million tourists during the summer months, but is not on the list because the number of tourists visiting the park is difficult to measure.
